Dogs In A Pile headed up to Boston for a pair of concerts this past weekend at Paradise Rock Club. The New Jersey-based jam quintet nodded to renowned Boston group Dropkick Murphys by pairing up the intro to “I’m Shipping Up To Boston” with the Grateful Dead‘s “The Other One.”
Three DIAP members — bassist Sam Lucid, keyboardist Jeremy Kaplan and guitarist Brian Murray — attended the prestigious Berklee School of Music in Boston.
The band’s Boston tribute began halfway through the second set with the iconic intro to Dropkick Murphy’s “I’m Shipping Up To Boston.” The band then swerved into the Grateful Dead psychedelic classic “The Other One.” A fitting and well-jammed rendition of the Brian Murray-penned “Fenway” followed.
Dogs kicked off the show with “Craig And Pat,” which they stretched to nearly 20-minutes. The band launched set two with the original instrumental rendition of “Go Set,” which they included (with lyrics) on their new studio album, Distroid. Additional covers included Ben Folds' “Song For The Dumped,” Lynyrd Skynyrd's “I Know A Little” and Chick Corea's “Spain.”
The encore got underway with DIAP wishing Jeremy Kaplan a happy birthday. The concert and Paradise Rock Club sting came to a close with “Chop Shop.”
