Dogs In A Pile made a foray up to Grand Rapids, Michigan on Friday in between their Garcia’s residency shows in Chicago. The New Jersey outfit’s show at Elevation at The Intersection boasted a Fiona Apple cover debut.

DIAP kicked off one set in Grand Rapids with “Dangers Of Rah Rah,” a tune they unveiled on New Year’s Eve 2024. The band also offered covers of Lynyrd Skynyrd‘s “I Know A Little” and The Band‘s “Ophelia” in the initial stages of the show.

A big jam arrived on favorite “Bent Strange,” a rendition just shy of 22-minutes. Dogs also expanded on “Samba For Sam” and “Tillie” before adding the Fiona Apple classic “Criminal” to their live repertoire.

Over a shuffling beat from drummer Joey Babick, keyboardist Jeremy Kaplan channeled Fiona’s brooding piano on the song off her 1996 debut album Tidal. Following the “Criminal” premiere, Dogs In A Pile explored “Thomas Duncan Pt. 3” to close the concert.
