New Jersey’s Dogs In A Pile dedicated their fall tour kickoff show at Visulite Theatre in Charlotte on Thursday to WMMR Philadelphia radio legend, Pierre Robert, who sadly died on Wednesday, October 29. The band also changed up the lyrics to their song “Stevie Lew” in a nod to the renowned rock radio host.
Read an excerpt from WMMR’s obituary for “radio icon and friend” Pierre Robert:
Pierre Robert’s career with WMMR began in 1981, and over more than four decades, he became one of the city’s most recognizable voices. Famous for his signature “Greetings Citizens” salutation, Pierre’s warm voice and genuine passion for music captured the hearts of listeners across Philadelphia. His midday show was celebrated for its blend of rock, alternative, punk, and singer-songwriter genres, reflecting the rich diversity and spirit of the city’s music scene.
Listeners eagerly tuned in for Pierre’s daily features such as the Noontime Workforce Blocks, Pierre’s Vinyl Cut, exclusive artist interviews, and “On This Day” music history segments. Beyond the airwaves, Pierre was a beloved figure in Philadelphia’s live music venues, from intimate clubs to massive stadiums, where he connected deeply with fans and artists alike. His contributions were honored with a star on the Philadelphia Music Alliance Walk of Fame.
Hailing from nearby New Jersey, Dogs In A Pile were certainly no strangers to Pierre Robert on Philly radio. The second set of the show Dogs dedicated to Robert in Charlotte began with “Stevie Lew,” which featured the lyric change: “Thank God we had Pierre Robert on the radio. Philadelphia to Charlotte, we got quite a ways to go.”
