Dogs In A Pile were among the performers at the Great South Bay Music Festival on Saturday in Patchogue, New York. The New Jersey jam band unveiled a song from Long Island’s own Billy Joel, “Scenes From Italian Restaurant,” at Shorefront Park.

DIAP — guitarists Jimmy Law and Brian Murray, keyboardist Jeremy Kaplan, drummer Joey Babick, and bassist Sam Lucid — launched their Great South Bay 2024 appearance with the staple “Go Set.” The band then offered newer tune “My Disguise” ahead of “Look Johnny” and “Men of Steel.”

Next came “Scenes From An Italian Restaurant.” A deep cut from Joel’s landmark 1977 album, The Stranger, “Scenes” has since become a favorite among Billy Joel fans, making it a choice cover for DIAP. Also apropos for Great South Bay, Billy Joel grew up less than an hour from Patchogue in Cold Spring Harbor. Keyboardist Jeremy Kaplan led the Joel cover.

Dogs welcomed collaborator saxophonist Bennie Pinnola for their “Scenes From An Italian Restaurant” debut. Pinnola stayed on to help DIAP close their Great South Bay set with “Let U Go.” Check out clips from both songs below:
