The Disco Biscuits added the song “Tantalize” to their live repertoire Friday night during the first of two shows at French Broad River Brewery in Asheville, North Carolina. The band brought the song over from the Bisco side project Electron.
Electron is made up of tDB keyboardist Aron Magner and bassist Marc Brownstein, along with Joe Russo’s Almost Dead guitarist Tom Hamilton and Lotus drummer Mike Greenfield (Joe Russo previously played drums with the group). In April, Electron held their first concerts in two years.
“Tantalize” was first performed by Electron in December 2014 and has been played several additional times by the supergroup since its debut. The song entered the Disco Biscuits’ rotation near the end of Friday’s first set, which began with an unfinished “Feeling Twisted.”
A nearly 30-minute “Who’s In Charge” anchored the opening set and was followed by an inverted “Shelby Rose.” The aforementioned song debut teed up the well-placed “To Be Continued” set-closer.
Brownstein, Magner, guitarist Jon Gutwillig and drummer Allen Aucoin came back for the second set and did surpass the 30-minute mark with the opening choice of “The Deal.” The quartet continued with “Munchkin Invasion” encapsulating a 20-minute unfolding of the recently debuted original “Country Royale” and the live staple “Helicopters.”
The Disco Biscuits returned to complete “Helicopters” during the encore, circling back to it after starting the finale with “M.E.M.P.H.I.S.”
Saturday’s Bisco show at French Broad River Brewery featured a pair of bust outs in the form of the first “Crystal Ball” since 2023 and the first “The Tunnel” since 2021.
The band’s 30th Anniversary Tour continues tomorrow, Tuesday, June 10 at the Lincoln Theatre in Raleigh, North Carolina. Livestream options are available via nugs.net.
