Devon Allman joined forces with Maggie Rose to cover “These Days,” a Jackson Browne song famously recorded by Gregg Allman for 1973’s Laid Back. The new studio track is out today and arrives in tribute to what would have been Devon’s father’s 75th birthday next month.
Devon and Maggie recorded their rendition of “These Days” one afternoon in Nashville earlier this year. The pair pulled off their guitar and vocal tracks live in one take. Former Allman Brothers Band member Chuck Leavell contributed to the cut by recreating his signature Fender Rhodes solo from the Laid Back version.
Maggie used a Johnny Cash model Martin acoustic guitar Gregg left to his son. Devon played two other instruments previously owned by his father on the track — a 1966 Fender XII electric 12-string guitar and Gibson J200 tobacco burst acoustic guitar. Judd Fuller recorded his bass part with Gregg’s old 1966 Fender Jazz.
The duo debuted their take on “These Days” earlier this week at the Opry. Devon and Maggie will soon embark on this year’s Allman Family Revival tour. The run honoring Gregg Allman consists of 18 stops in 2022 spanning November 26 through December 17. Find the full list of dates below after hearing the new version of “These Days”:
