Derek Trucks & Susan Tedeschi Help Welcome Stephen Colbert To ‘The Late Show’

Last night marked the start of Stephen Colbert’s term as host of CBS late night program The Late Show. We already knew from the comedian’s run on The Colbert Report that he has good taste in music, but he took it to the next level by putting together an all-star finale for Tuesday’s premiere.

Colbert’s house band, Jon Batiste and Stay Human, were joined by a ridiculous array of talented musicians to close out the show with a cover of Sly & The Family Stone’s “Everyday People.” The jam scene was represented by guitarist Derek Trucks and vocalist Susan Tedeschi of the Tedeschi Trucks Band, but they were just the tip of the iceberg. Brittany Howard of Alabama Shakes sang a verse as did the great Mavis Staples and Colbert himself. Ben Folds helped out on keys, the legendary Buddy Guy dueled it out with Trucks, while Aloe Blacc, Paul Janeway (St. Paul & The Broken Bones), Zach Condon (Beirut) and Kyle Resnick were also among the musicians to add to the stellar finale.
