David Gilmour warmed up for his upcoming tour in support of Luck and Strange, his first solo album in nine years, by playing a pair of warm-up concerts in Brighton, England on Friday night and Saturday afternoon. Gilmour’s first full concerts since 2016 featured a handful of Pink Floyd classics he hadn’t played in decades, including the return of “Breathe (In The Air).”

The setlists for both “dress rehearsals” were the same. David Gilmour and his backing band — bassist Guy Pratt, Greg Phillinganes and Rob Gentry on keyboards, guitarist Ben Worsley, drummer Adam Betts on drums, Romany Gilmour on harp and vocals and Louise Marshall with Hattie and Charley Webb on vocals — mixed Pink Floyd songs and material from the guitarist’s last two solo albums over a pair of lengthy sets.

After opening with “5 A.M.” off 2015’s Rattle That Lock, Gilmour offered live debuts of “Black Cat” and the title track from Luck And Strange. “Speak To Me” then played over the speakers to preface the Dark Side Of The Moon sequence “Breathe (In The Air) > Time > Breathe (Reprise).”

David Gilmour had last performed “Breathe” on August 26, 2006. Three more Pink Floyd tunes associated with Gilmour — “Fat Old Sun,” “Marooned” and “Wish You Were Here” — followed. “Marooned” from the album The Division Bell hadn’t been played by the guitarist since 2004. Next it was back to Luck and Strange for the premiere of “Vita Brevis” before Gilmour covered The Montgolfier Brothers’ “Between Two Points” and ended the set with The Division Bell’s “High Hopes.”

“Sorrow” from the 1987 Pink Floyd album A Momentary Lapse of Reason began the second set. Next came the live debut of Luck and Strange track “The Piper’s Call” and Gilmour’s first take on The Division Bell’s “A Great Day For Freedom” since 2006. Then, the guitarist fit Pink Floyd classic “The Great Gig In The Sky” between Rattle That Lock cuts “In Any Tongue” and “A Boat Lies Waiting.”

The second set rolled on with “Coming Back To Life” from The Division Bell. David Gilmour closed the frame by premiering Luck and Strange numbers “Dark and Velvet Nights” and “Scattered.” The beloved Pink Floyd hit “Comfortably Numb” was the encore.
