One of rock’s most lauded concert films, Pink Floyd: Live at Pompeii, was recorded in 1971 at an ancient Roman theater in Pompeii, Italy. The band’s guitarist, David Gilmour, will bring his solo tour in support of 2015’s Rattle That Lock to the historic site on July 7 and 8 as per a tweet from Pompeii Culture Minister Dario Franceschin which was reported by Consequence Of Sound.
The dates are part of Gilmour’s European Tour which as currently constructed spans late June to late July. Gilmour kicks off his first North American Tour since 2006 at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles on March 24. No word yet on tickets for David Gilmour’s return to Pompeii which will take place almost 45 years after the Pink Floyd performances at the venue and didn’t feature a live audience. The Guardian reports, “It is likely Gilmour will play at the site’s amphitheatre rather than the Large Theatre where the documentary Pink Floyd: Live at Pompeii was made, a spokesman for the town said.”
