Dave Matthews Band performed “Bartender” to open their concert on Wednesday night at the Budweiser Stage in Toronto. The song from 2002’s Busted Stuff had yet to be played on the septet’s current tour and last night marked the first time a full-band “Bartender” started a DMB show since March 9, 2010.
Lead guitarist Tim Reynolds utilized a slide on the “Bartender” opener while Jeff Coffin fit in a flute solo and worked in portions of “If I Only Had A Brain” with his bandmates following along. Dave Matthews Band went on to deliver a career-spanning setlist during the tour’s lone stop in Canada beginning with the classic “#41” coming after “Bartender.”
The 21-song concert featured a slew of live staples including “Grace Is Gone,” “Don’t Drink The Water,” “Madman’s Eyes,” “Warehouse” and “Two Step.” DMB also covered Peter Gabriel’s “Sledgehammer,” offered the tour’s second take on “Old Dirt Hill (Bring That Beat Back)” and played more rare material in “Sweet,” “The Song That Jane Likes” and “Lying In The Hands Of God” as part of the concert.
In similar fashion to other stops on the tour, Dave Matthews went solo to start the encore. Last night, Matthews performed “Virginia In The Rain” and then was joined by his bandmates for the evening’s “Ants Marching” finale.
