Dan Auerbach has shared details of his new solo album entitled Waiting On A Song, which will be released on his new label Easy Eye Sound on June 2. The Black Keys’ guitarist shared the first single from the new record, “Shine On Me.”
Described as “a love letter to Nashville” – the city Auerbach has called home since moving from Akron, Ohio in 2010 – Waiting On A Song follows-up his last solo LP, 2009’s Keep It Hid. Nashville-based legends and Auerbach’s heroes such as John Prine, Duane Eddy, Jerry Douglas, Pat McLaughlin and The Memphis Boys’ Bobby Wood and Gene Chrisman were enlisted to help write and record the 10-song album.
“Living in Nashville has definitely changed the way I think about music and the way that I record it,” Auerbach said in a statement. “I didn’t have all of these resources before. I am working with some of the greatest musicians that ever lived … They’d come over, and we’d be in a little room in my house with the door closed, and we’d just write. Monday through Wednesday we’d write, and then Thursday through Sunday we’d record, every week.”
Prine co-wrote seven of the songs on Waiting On A Song, including the title track. NPR Music premiered the video for the single “Shine On Me” which features guitarist Mark Knopfler. Watch it here:
The new record, including a limited-edition bundle featuring “an exclusive 8 track and a vintage 8 track player signed and customized by Auerbach, a seat cushion and various autographed and colored vinyl sets” is available for pre-order in all formats here.
