Damon Albarn Shares ‘The Tower Of Montevideo’ Single & Live Performance Video

Gorillaz and Blur frontman continues to preview his forthcoming solo album, The Nearer The Fountain, More Pure The Stream Flows with new single “The Tower Of Montevideo.” Both the album version and a live performance video featuring “The Tower Of Montevideo” dropped today ahead of the LP’s release via Transgressive Records on November 12.

Albarn was inspired by the landscapes he saw during a trip to Iceland to create an orchestral piece. Instead, Damon went on to craft the material into an 11-track album while locked down in 2020 during the pandemic. The musician based the title of his first solo LP since 2014’s Everyday Roberts on lines from the John Clare poem Love And Memory.

“The Tower Of Montevideo” is Palacio Salvo, a legendary building in Uruguay built in the 1920s. Damon’s fascination with that part of the world, an area he described as both “familiar and utterly otherworldly,” is the basis for the track. Check out Albarn’s live performance below:
