Watch Cypress Hill & London Symphony Orchestra ‘Insane In The Brain’ Performance Predicted By ‘The Simpsons’

The Simpsons have a proven track record of predicting the future. Inspired by a 1996 Simpsons episode they appeared in, legendary hip-hop group Cypress Hill performed “Insane in the Brain” and more with the London Symphony Orchestra at Royal Albert Hall on Wednesday.

In “Homerpalooza,” the penultimate episode of The Simpsons’ seventh season, Homer joins the music festival circuit as a guy who gets shot in the stomach with a cannonball. The instant classic episode features guest appearances from Peter Frampton, Sonic Youth, Smashing Pumpkins and Cypress Hill.

Cypress Hill are accused of booking the London Symphony Orchestra “possibly while high” for one of their performances and the episode includes a snippet of the LSO tackling the iconic song “Insane in the Brain.”

That Simpsons scene became a reality yesterday at the Royal Albert Hall. Cypress Hill’s B-Real spoke with the BBC about how nodding to their Simpsons appearance has been in the works for sometime.

“It’s been something that we’ve talked about for many years since the Simpsons episode first aired,” he said. “So it’s very special for us. And it’s coming off the heels of our 30th anniversary for our Black Sunday album. We’ve played a lot of historical venues throughout our career and stuff like that, but nothing as prestigious as this.”

Cypress Hill — B-Real, Sen Dog, Eric “Bobo” Correa and DJ Muggs — teamed with the LSO at Royal Albert Hall for a complete performance of Black Sunday beginning with the stoner anthem, “I Wanna Get High,” and including additional favorites like “I Ain’t Goin’ Out Like That,” “When the Shit Goes Down,” “Hits From the Bong,” “Dr. Greenthumb,” “How I Could Just Kill a Man” and the Grammy-nominated “Insane in the Brain.”
