Cover Alert | Zach Maxwell Covers Bug By Phish

Longtime Phish fan Zach Maxwell has produced another Phish cover, this time selecting their song “Bug” based on the band’s lyricist Tom Marshall’s suggestion. Once again the New York City-based pop musician drew from live Phish samples to create his eclectic version of “Bug.”

Here’s how The Middlebury College album detailed the process of developing the cover:

After I put my first Phish cover out into the ether, I was lucky enough to be contacted by Phish lyricist Tom Marshall on twitter. Tom and I started chatting and he mentioned that he would like to see how I’d do with a cover of “Bug.” Beyond honored to have been asked and of course, being the huge fan I am of his, I happily obliged. At first, I had no idea what I would do with “Bug”, so I decided to really focus on the lyrics and produce the music around three different themes from the Nassau ’03 Tweezer, one of my favorite all time Phish jams. The result: an abstract, joyful and turns out, philosophical cover of “Bug” featuring the great Nassau ’03 Tweezer. Enjoy!
