Late musician legend Prince was an unusual character so it was only fitting he used guitars as inventive as he was. From 1988 to 1994 The Purple One’s main axe was a wild instrument created by guitar tech Zeke Clark dubbed “Yellow Cloud.” Prince’s Yellow Cloud guitar went up for auction yesterday and was purchased by Indianapolis Colts owner Jim Irsay whose collection also includes Jerry Garcia’s Tiger.
Irsay paid $137,500 for the guitar at an auction in Beverly Hills on Saturday as per ESPN. Prince fan Richard Leece purchased the axe for $30,000 last year and made over $100K in profit, though he explained the reason he sold it was “something as valuable as this could be too risky to continue to have in my possession.”
