Colter Wall confirmed a new album, Little Songs, set to arrive on July 14 via his own La Honda Records in a new partnership with RCA Records. The Canadian singer-songwriter from Battle Creek, Saskatchewan also shared a cover of Hoyt Axton’s “Evangelina” to preview the LP.

“These songs were written over the last three years,” Wall said of the material on the new record. “I penned most of them from home and I think the songs reflect that.”

While Wall wrote the songs in his native Battle Creek, Saskatchewan, the singer-songwriter returned to Yellowdog Studios in Wimberly, Texas — where he recorded his 2020 LP, Western Swing & Waltzes and Other Punchy Songs — to cut Little Songs. Colter also teamed back up with Western Swing’s Patrick Lyons to co-produce the new album.

Little Songs’ tracks are comprised of eight originals and two covers: Ian Tyson’s “The Coyote & The Cowboy” and the aforementioned cover of Hoyt Axton’s “Evangelina.” The latter originally appears on Axton’s 1976 album, Fearless. “Evangelina” speaks of the parched deserts of Northern Mexico but fits in perfectly on Colter’s homage to his home on the dusty plains of Saskatchewan.
