Coldplay held the first show of their A Head Full of Dreams North American Tour last night at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey. Frontman Chris Martin performed a cover of a Linkin Park song which in honor of the band’s late frontman Chester Bennington.
Toward the latter part of the show Martin led a solo piano arrangement of “Crawling,” which appeared on Linkin Park’s 2000 debut LP Hybrid Theory. As noted by Billboard, Martin dedicated the cover to “anyone who’s missing someone” before having to restart the performance following a botched start. Bennington was just 41-years-old when he tragically took his own life last month.
Noisey reported Bennington’s Linkin Park band mate Mike Shindola was in attendance Tuesday evening. He thanked Coldplay on Instagram and approved of the cover, writing, “It sounded beautiful.”
