Guns N’ Roses Welcome Chris Stapleton For ‘Knockin’ On Heaven’s Door’ In Toronto

Chris Stapleton made a surprise guest appearance at Guns N' Roses' Wednesday night concert in Toronto. The country music superstar teamed with GN’R for a cover of Bob Dylan’s “Knockin’ On Heaven’s Door” at Rogers Stadium.

Chris Stapleton was in Toronto ahead of his Thursday night concert at Rogers Stadium. The country star previously opened for Guns N’ Roses at Nashville’s Nissan Stadium in 2016. Meanwhile, GN’R recently launched the North American leg of their 2026 World Tour in Raleigh, North Carolina on July 23.

Stapleton came out 19 tunes into Guns N’ Roses’ 28-song performance in Toronto. The Grammy-winning singer-songwriter dueted with Axl Rose on “Knockin’ On Heaven’s Door,” a cover that has been a staple of GN’R’s live repertoire for nearly 30 years. Bob Dylan originally recorded the song for the soundtrack to the 1973 film Pat Garrett and Billy The Kid.

While Stapleton had an electric guitar in hand, he left the solos to Slash and Richard Fortus. The Kentucky native did have a turn in the solo spotlight to sing the chorus during a breakdown. “Mr. Chris Stapleton, he’ll see you tomorrow,” Rose exclaimed at the end of “Knockin’ On Heaven’s Door.”
