Chris Stapleton & Grace Potter Cover Creedence Clearwater Revival At The Gorge

Chris Stapleton has recruited an otherworldly array of stellar musicians to open dates on his ongoing All-American Road Show over the past few years, but more often than not he doesn’t share the stage with them. The country superstar deviated from the norm this past weekend at The Gorge, where he brought out Grace Potter during his sets on Friday and Saturday to cover the Creedence Clearwater Revival classic “Born On The Bayou.”

Grace Potter and her talented backing band kicked off both shows at the bucolic George, Washington venue, as they did earlier this summer for Stapleton concerts in Hershey, Pennsylvania and Portland, Oregon. The Vermont-born singer-songwriter is gearing up for the release of her seventh studio album, Trespasser, due out August 21 via Thirty Tigers.

Chris Stapleton headlined each night lengthy sets pulling heavily from his Higher (2023), Starting Over (2020) and Traveller (2015) records. The two setlists varied slightly, but followed the same general direction.

Stapleton prefaced each collaboration with his staple cover of John Fogerty’s “Joy Of My Life.” The Kentucky-bred musician then brought out Grace Potter for rousing “Born On The Bayou” duets. Potter unleashed fiery solos on her Flying V guitar during both versions. The pair traded verses throughout.

Creedence Clearwater Revival originally released “Born On The Bayou” on their sophomore stdio album, Bayou Country, in 1969. Neither Chris Stapleton or Grace Potter had performed the song prior to the shows at The Gorge.
