Watch Chris Robinson Brotherhood’s Groovy Performance At Rockpalast Crossroads In 2018

Today marks Chris Robinson’s 56th birthday. The Black Crowes frontman has also led various side projects whenever The Crowes went on hiatus. The longest-running and most prolific of these was the Chris Robinson Brotherhood. Forming in 2010, the CRB disbanded in 2019 following the death of co-founding guitarist Neal Casal. A year earlier, the band delivered a performance at Rockpalast’s Crossroads Festival.

Over the course of a decade, the CRB released seven studio albums along with a live series helmed by longtime Grateful Dead audio engineer Betty Cantor-Jackson. 2017 saw CRB releasing both a studio and live album, Barefoot in the Head and Betty’s Blends, Vol. 3: Self-Rising, Southern Blends respectively. The following year saw CRB conducting their third European tour, however, the band had yet to make a stop in Germany until their ’18 run through the continent which saw them hitting Hamburg, Berlin and finally Bonn for the Rockpalast play.

CRB — Robinson, Casal, keyboardist Adam MacDougall, drummer Tony Leone and bassist Jeff Hill — kicked off their set with “Jump The Turnstiles” from the 2014 album Phosphorescent Harvest. They then offered a tune, “Venus In Chrome,” that would land on their final studio album, 2019’s Servants Of The Sun.

But the band would draw heavily from their current record at the time, Barefoot In The Head, with “High Is Not The Top,” “Good To Know,” “Hark, The Herald Hermit Speaks,” “She Shares My Blanket” and “Behold The Seer” during the main set. CRB wrapped the set with “Rosalee” off their 2012 debut album Big Moon Ritual. The band would return to Barefoot for the encore of “Glow.”
