Chris Robinson Brotherhood Debuts Neil Young Covers In San Francisco

On Thursday night, the Chris Robinson Brotherhood kicked off their annual multi-night run in San Francisco. The band ended the first of three shows at The Fillmore with a pair of Neil Young cover debuts.
Robinson & Co. filled both sets with a career-spanning collection of originals as well as a bevy of covers. Originals included a jammed-out “Meanwhile In The Gods…,” an early “Vibration & Light Suite” and the Barefoot In The Head stunner “If You Had A Heart To Break.” For covers, The CRB treated fans to a show-opening rendition of Hank Ballard’s “Let’s Go, Let’s Go, Let’s Go” as well as their standout version of Delaney & Bonnie’s “Poor Elijah/Tribute To Johnson” and a double dose of Slim Harpo in “The Music’s Hot” and “Got Love If You Want It.”
When the CRB returned to the stage they had a big surprise in store. Robinson led his group through two Neil Young covers the band had never played before. Up first was Tonight’s The Night’s “World On A String,” a song Young hasn’t performed live since 2009. Then, came another Tonight’s The Night stunner with the Chris Robinson Brotherhood debut of “Roll Another Number.”
