Chris Robinson Brotherhood Debuts ‘Bye & Bye’ Cover In Massachusetts

By Andy Kahn Aug 21, 2017 1:15 pm PDT

Gateway City Arts in Holyoke, Massachusetts was the site of a Chris Robinson Brotherhood performance Sunday night. The CRB capped their show with an encore featuring a debut cover of a traditional folk song.

Frontman Chris Robinson led the group through an opening take on The Byrds “Lazy Days” followed by “High Is Not The Top” from their recently issued album Barefoot In The Head. The second set featured several additional songs from the new album, including the recently debuted “Hark, The Herald Hermit Speaks,” “She Shares My Blanket,” “Good To Know” and “Behold The Seer.”

For the encore Robinson and the band performed the traditional hymn “Bye & Bye” based on Jim Kweskin’s arrangement. The song was published in 1905 as “We’ll Understand It Better By and By” by Charles Albert Tindley and recorded live by Kweskin in 1966. The CRB performs again tomorrow at Mr. Small’s Theatre in Millvale, Pennsylvania.
