Chris Hillman announced a memoir, Time Between, My Life As A Byrd, Burrito Brother & Beyond, due out November 17 via BMG Books. The autobiography follows Hillman’s experiences as the original bassist for The Byrds as well as a founding member of the groundbreaking country rock group The Flying Burrito Brothers and more.

A quote from Tom Petty — whose sound was heavily influenced by The Byrds and who produced Hillman’s 2017 album Bidin’ My Time (the final album Petty would helm) — arrived with the memoir announcement. Read Petty’s words below:
Chris Hillman has been a well-kept secret in the history of rock. Yeah, we all know how great he was in the Byrds, but his contributions go well beyond that. Chris was a true innovator — the man who invented country rock. Every time the Eagles board their private jet Chris at least paid for the fuel.
Along with recollections from his childhood and a forward by Dwight Yoakam, the memoir contains a look back at the myriad supergroup projects Hillman took part in after his time with The Byrds and Burrito Brothers. The book also recounts encounters with some of music’s biggest names including Jimi Hendrix, Bob Dylan, The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Bo Diddley, Otis Redding, Chuck Berry, Buck Owens, Steven Stills and more.
