Chicago Field Museum To Host Grateful Dead Celebrations

Chicago’s Field Museum is located next to Soldier Field, which will host Fare Thee Well -Celebrating 50 Years Of Grateful Dead July 3 -5. The Field Museum will be the site of a number of Grateful Dead celebrations of its own during Fare Thee Well as reported by ABC7Chicago.

Dubbed Everything Is Dead at the Field Museum, the events scheduled to take place at the museum include a special exhibit, a series of jazz performances and a gathering spot for Deadheads before and during each show.

“All The Years Combine: Deadhead Treasures from the The Grateful Dead Archive & GDTS Too” is an exhibit that will feature objects from the band’s 30-year touring career which is said to document the special bond between the Grateful Dead and their fans. Those attending can view fan correspondence, newsletters, drawings, posters, tickets, backstage passes and more in the Stanley Field Hall from June 28 -July 5.

Over the past few years Fare Thee Well co-promoter Peter Shapiro has put together Jazz & Colors events in New York City at which jazz acts scattered around a venue perform the same setlist. Shapiro will bring this concept to Chicago with the jazz ensembles set to play songs by the Grateful Dead between 12:30 p.m. and 3 p.m. on July 4.

Finally, The Field Museum will host gatherings for Deadheads both before and during each show at Soldier Field. Beer, wine, food and music will be available and a raffle for a “miracle” to Fare Thee Well will take place. Tickets can be obtained via Eventbrite.
