Chappell Roan Takes ‘The Subway’ For A Ride On Highly-Anticipated New Single

Chappell Roan’s impressive 2024 Governor’s Ball set was memorable for not only her Statue Of Liberty stage attire, but also because she debuted a new song entitled “The Subway.” Over one year later, Roan shared the long-awaited official single version of the song.

Roan recently announced the “Visions Of Damsels & Other Dangerous Things” series of pop-up shows this fall in New York City, Los Angeles and Kansas City.

The run starts with four concerts at Forest Hills Stadium in New York City, September 20 – 24. Roan then heads to her home state of Missouri for a pair of performances at Kansas City’s Museum & Memorial Park on October 3 and 4 before ending the pop-up trek with two nights at Brookside at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, California, October 10 and 11.

A staple of live performances since its debut, “The Subway” follows Roan’s country-tinged 2025 single, “The Giver.” Roan co-wrote “The Subway” with the track’s producer, Daniel Nigro.

“The cliche of ‘the girl that got away’ barely scratches the surface for me with this song,” Roan revealed. “I wrote it as I was stumbling around New York with a broken heart and I kept envisioning us on every street, fire escape, coffee shop, park and yes… the subway.”

The single arrived with an accompanying music video directed by Amber Grace Johnson and described as “a high-camp love letter to New York and the one that got away, all shot on 35mm film.”
