Famed rockers Bruce Springsteen & The E Street Band only played 33 shows in 1977 and no soundboard recordings from the year circulate among fans. In fact, there was question as to whether any official recordings from 1977 existed. Tomorrow (Friday, August 4), Springsteen fans will finally get to hear a taste of The Boss’s 1977 The Lawsuit Tour when nugs.net unveils a new live archival release featuring portions of two shows from the year. As if that news wasn’t exciting enough, 24 more “new” recordings from Springsteen’s vault are slated for future release.
The news of the ’77 set due tomorrow and the future releases was shared by nugs.net/live.brucespringsteen.net’s Brad Serling on E Street Radio. As per Backstreets, Serling told host Jim Rotolo about what is in the works:
Serling talked at length about the archive program, stating that the release schedule will now target the first Friday of each month for a new concert. Right now, 25 shows have been identified and approved, covering most eras of Springsteen’s career. Not every era exists in the archive; the Gerber tapes, however, greatly expand what’s available.
While full details of the ’77 set will be announced tomorrow, Serling revealed the set will combine tunes recorded in Albany on February 7, 1977 and the next night in Rochester. No recordings of the Albany show, soundboard OR audience, circulate. The one caveat is that the partial shows were recorded by former Bruce soundman Chas Gerber in mono.
