Bruce Hornsby Among Allman Brothers Band Guests On This Date In 2009

Nearly three years after The Allman Brothers Band played their final show, it’s still weird for March to roll around without the group’s annual March Madness Run at NYC’s Beacon Theatre. At least we can re-live some of the many incredible shows Gregg Allman and Co. played at the venue such as a guest-filled masterpiece from this date in 2009.
The Allman Brothers Band’s Beacon runs always featured special guests, but the group took it to a new level to celebrate their 40th anniversary in 2009. Eric Clapton, Levon Helm, Trey Anastasio, John Bell, Buddy Guy, Jimmy Herring, John Popper and Billy Gibbons were just some of the many legendary musicians who sat-in during the March 2009 residency. One of the best shows of the ’09 run took place on March 21, when the Allmans were joined by The Asbury Jukes Horns, Susan Tedeschi, Southside Johnny and Bruce Hornsby at various points of the night.
Hornsby was on hand for the entire second set which featured covers of “Grandma’s Hands” and “The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down” as well as ABB classics “In Memory Of Elizabeth Reed” and “Jessica.” Watch pro-shot footage of Bruce Hornsby and the Asbury Jukes Horns contributing to The Band’s “The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down”:
