Howard will tour around newly announced album What Now — the singer-songwriter’s first since her 2019 solo debut LP Jaime — previewed today by the title track. Brittany co-produced the song with longtime collaborator Shawn Everett (Kacey Musgraves, SZA). The creative relationship stretches back to Howard’s Alabama Shakes days.
Brittany also brought Shakes bandmate bassist Zac Cockrell on board for “What Now.” Cockrell has backed Brittany in her solo band along with drummer Nate Smith who also plays on “What Now.” Additionally contributors include Paul Horton and Lloyd Buchanan.

“‘What Now’” takes on a potent urgency fueled by its syncopated grooves, blistering guitar riffs, and fiercely honest lyrics,” as per a press release on the new song. Howard added.
“It’s never my design to hurt anyone’s feelings, but I needed to say what was on my mind without editing myself. I like how it’s a song that makes you want to dance, but at the same time the lyrics are brutal.”
Howard tapped Danilo Parra, known for his work with A$AP Rocky, to direct the music video for “What Now,” which was produced by Adam Braun (070 Shake, P!NK). Watch below:
