Brandi Carlile was joined by opening acts Lake Street Dive and Celisse during her concert last night in St. Paul, Minnesota. The separate sit-ins occurred at the Beyond These Silent Days Tour stop at the Xcel Energy Center.
Celisse, who is a member of Phish guitarist Trey Anastasio’s side project Ghosts Of The Forest, emerged during the headliner’s main set. The guest musician joined Carlile’s arrangement of David Bowie’s “Space Oddity” paired with Radiohead’s “Creep.” Celisse came back out at the start of the encore for a rendition of her original song, “Crazy.”
Carlile’s first performance since last weekend’s incredible set with Joni Mitchell at the Newport Folk Festival continued with Celisse adding to a thrilling cover of Mitchell’s “Woodstock.” Lake Street Dive members then came onstage to assist on a cover of Bonnie Raitt’s “Nick Of Time.” Originals “Hold Out Your Hand” and “Stay Gentle” followed, before Carlile led a show-closing, solo take on “Somewhere Over The Rainbow.”
Friday’s main set commenced with an intro by “The Twins” — guitarist Tim Hanseroth and his brother bassist Phil Hanseroth, followed by “Broken Horses” from Carlile’s 2021 album, In These Silent Days, which saw a total of seven of its 10 songs make the setlist (including “Stay Gentle”). The set contained other favorites such as “The Story,” “The Eye,” “The Mother” and “The Joke.” View the setlist here.
Carlile’s Beyond These Silent Days Tour with Lake Street Dive and Celisse continues tonight with the first of two shows at Big Top Chautauqua in Bayfield, Wisconsin. Check out video clips from Saturday’s show in St. Paul:
