boygenius released a cover of “The Parting Glass,” in honor of late Irish musician Sinead O’Connor. Proceeds from the single will go toward the Aisling Project, an organization selected by Sinéad O’Connor’s estate that is “an after-school project working with children and young people growing up in a disadvantaged area in Dublin, Ireland.”
“The Parting Glass” is a traditional song that originated in Scotland in the 1700s. Often sung at the end of an evening or event, “The Parting Glass” later became a staple of Ireland. Sinéad O’Connor, who sadly died in July at age 56, recorded a version of “The Parting Glass” for her 2002 album of traditional Irish music, Sean-Nós Nua.

boygenius – Phoebe Bridgers, Julien Baker and Lucy Dacus – recorded their version of “The Parting Glass” with the accompaniment of Dublin, Ireland-based, sibling folk duo Ye Vagabonds (brothers Diarmuid Mac Gloinn and Brían Mac Gloinn). Bridgers has previously covered O’Connor’s “Black Boys on Mopeds” during solo performances.
