On Saturday Bobby Weir & Wolf Bros along with The Wolf Pack horns and strings played the penultimate concert of a five-show run at The Capitol Theatre in Port Chester, New York. The Grateful Dead guitarist and his band welcomed pianist Dred Scott for a guest appearance on the last song of the evening’s first set.

Each first set of the residency has followed the same pattern with Bobby starting the show solo before slowly working up to the full 10-piece ensemble. Weir chose the Memphis Jug Band cover “K.C. Moan” for his solo acoustic opener on Saturday. Bassist Don Was and drummer Jay Lane then backed Bobby on “Loser” ahead of a “Mission In The Rain” that saw keyboardist Jeff Chimenti added to the mix. The five-piece Bobby Weir & Wolf Bros lineup complete with pedal steel guitarist Barry Sless was aboard for the ensuing take on Merle Haggard’s “Mama Tried.”

The Wolf Pack consisting of Sheldon Brown (tenor sax, flute), Alex Kelly (cello), Brian Switzer (trumpet), Mads Tolling (fiddle) and Adam Theis (trombone) made their first appearance of Saturday’s show by joining Bobby Weir & Wolf Bros on Grateful Dead classic “Jack Straw” and RatDog standout “Two Djin.” Next was “Lost Sailor” and frequent companion “Saint Of Circumstance.”

Dred Scott then emerged for the set-closing “Deal.” The New York City-based musician has played with the likes of Charlie Hunter, Don Byron, Paul McCandless and Marshall Crenshaw. Scott also co-founded hip-hop jazz group with Jay Lane and longtime RatDog member saxophonist Kenny Brooks.

Bobby Weir & Wolf Bros began Saturday’s second set with “Bombs Away” off the guitarist’s 1978 solo album, Heaven Help The Fool. It was then back to the Grateful Dead repertoire for meaty versions of “Truckin'” and “Turn On Your Love Light.” Weir and his band followed with an “Uncle John’s Band” that bled into “Supplication” before “Uncle John’s Band Reprise” closed the sequence. Next, the full 10-piece collective was on display for “Terrapin Station.”

The set continued as Weir helmed “Days Between,” one of the last Hunter/Garcia collaborations. The day-appropriate “One More Saturday Night” punctuated the frame. Bobby Weir & Wolf Bros went with the tender “Ripple” as Saturday’s encore.
