Bobby Weir & Wolf Bros featuring The Wolf Pack continued their five-show residency at The Capitol Theatre in Port Chester, New York on Wednesday. The second night of the run saw legendary jazz bassist Ron Carter sit-in once again and saw the ensemble weave a bit of “Eleanor Rigby” into their cover of The Beatles’ “Come Together.”
Last night’s first set followed the same path opening night did as the number of musicians on stage grew throughout the frame. Bob Weir emerged to kick off the action with acoustic guitar in hand for a solo cover of Little Feat’s “Easy To Slip.” The OG Wolf Bros Trio was on display next as drummer Jay Lane and bassist Don Was accompanied the Grateful Dead guitarist on the Marty Robbins-penned cowboy song “El Paso.” Then, keyboardist Jeff Chimenti joined for the Bob Dylan classic “Queen Jane Approximately” before a “Hell In The Bucket” featuring the full the core band including pedal steel guitarist Barry Sless.

Five musicians became 10 when The Wolf Pack brass and strings quintet — Sheldon Brown (tenor sax, flute), Alex Kelly (cello), Brian Switzer (trumpet), Mads Tolling (fiddle) and Adam Theis (trombone) — teamed with the core band for “The Music Never Stopped.” The 10-piece ensemble worked “Easy Answers” into “The Music Never Stopped,” a combo frequently played by the group.
Ron Carter stood in for Don Was on the final two songs of Wednesday’s first set in a repeat of the format from Tuesday. The famed bassist contributed to the pairing of Grateful Dead classics “Dark Star” and “Scarlet Begonias.” Carter discussed his collaborations at The Cap on Facebook writing, “Mr. Weir, Wolf Bros, and the Wolf Pack, and I, figured out a few things on a couple of songs these last couple of days. 12/12 and 12/13 The Capitol Theatre … some fine musicians.”
Bobby Weir & Wolf Bros featuring The Wolf Pack returned to launch the second set with a “Throwing Stones” that bled into “Viola Lee Blues.” The traditional jug band song was left unfinished as the 10 musicians transitioned into the Hunter/Weir composition “Corinna.” A seamless set continued with a horn-infused “Come Together.” Wolf Bros/Wolf Pack versions of the song from Tne Beatles’ Abbey Road LP often see the horn section fit in the theme from “Eleanor Rigby” and Wednesday’s rendition was no exception. The core band got in on the “Eleanor Rigby” action last night and jammed on the song for a bit before completing “Come Together.

Bobby Weir & Wolf Bros featuring The Wolf Pack return to The Capitol Theatre on Friday. Livestreams of Friday’s show as well as the other remaining concerts on Saturday and Sunday can be purchased via FANS.live.
