The Avett Brothers Cover John Fogerty’s ‘Centerfield’ At Atlanta Braves Postgame Concert

The Avett Brothers had the perfect song ready to lead off their postgame concert at Truist Park in Atlanta on Tuesday. The band opened the performance following an Atlanta Braves game with their second-ever cover of John Fogerty's baseball anthem “Centerfield.”

The Avetts’ performance came after the Tampa Bay Rays defeated the Braves 7-1. The full band recreated the distinctive handclaps that open Fogerty’s original recording before launching into “Centerfield.” Seth Avett played electric guitar as he and sibling Scott Avett traded lead vocals.

Fogerty released “Centerfield” on his 1985 album of the same name. The song became a ballpark staple and was honored by the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 2010. “Centerfield” has an additional connection to Tuesday’s setting as the recording is traditionally played at Truist Park when the Braves take the field.

The Avett Brothers debuted their “Centerfield” cover just after midnight at their New Year’s Eve concert in Asheville, North Carolina. The Fogerty favorite was the band’s first song of 2026 and was followed by the debut of a cover of Black Sabbath’s “Paranoid.”

Tuesday’s 14-song postgame set continued with “The D Bag Rag,” “Distraction #74” and “Will You Return?” The Avetts also worked Roger Miller’s “King Of The Road” and Earl Scruggs’ “Foggy Mountain Breakdown” into the performance. “No Hard Feelings” closed the main set before the band returned to encore with David Childers & The Modern Don Juans’ “The Prettiest Thing.”
