Bob Weir shared pro-shot video featuring joined by legendary bassist Ron Carter and The Wolfpack strings and horns on “Dark Star.” The +18-minute version was filmed on April 2 during the first of two concerts at New York City's Radio City Music Hall celebrating the 50th anniversary of Weir’s 1972 studio album, Ace.
“Dark Star” was played toward the middle of the evening’s second set. Carter helped give the Grateful Dead classic a jazz feel while taking over upright bass duties from Don Was. Weir, Carter, drummer Jay Lane, keyboardist Jeff Chimenti and pedal steel guitarist Barry Sless were augmented by The Wolfpack consisting of cellist Alex Kelly, violinist Mads Tolling, trombonist Adam Theis, trumpeter Brian Switzer and woodwind specialist Sheldon Brown for “Dark Star.” The Wolfpack also lent a hand on other portions of the evening.
Tyler Childers and Brittany Spencer also sat-in with Weir And Wolf Bros on April 2. Childers added to “Greatest Story Ever Told” and Spencer contributed to “Walk In The Sunshine” as part of a first set featuring a complete performance of Ace. Tyler returned for “You Win Again” with Brittany coming back for “Shakedown Street,” “What’s Going On” and “Eyes Of The World” during the second set.
“Everybody say thank you Ron,” Weir told the crowd at the end of “Dark Star.” Watch Bob Weir And Wolf Bros team with Ron Carter and The Wolfpack for “Dark Star” below:
