Bob Weir shared video featuring ‘ debut cover of the Marvin Gaye classic “What’s Going On.” Weir, an expanded Wolf Bros lineup and guitarist Matt Michna performed “What’s Going On” during the second set of their Saturday night livestream concert at TRI Studios.
The Grateful Dead/Dead & Company guitarist was joined by Michna, bassist Don Was, drummer Jay Lane, pedal steel guitarist Greg Leisz and keyboardist Jeff Chimenti as well as the Wolf Pack horn and strings for the Marvin Gaye cover on Saturday. The Wolf Pack features woodwind specialist Sheldon Brown, violinist Mads Tolling, trombonist Adam Theis, trumpeter Brian Switzer and cellist Alex Kelly.

Marvin Gaye originally released “What’s Going On” as the title track of his 1971 album. Gaye wrote the song with Renaldo “Obie” Benson and Al Cleveland.
Other highlights from Saturday’s livestream concert included the debut of “Big Sandy Creek,” a song with lyrics penned by Robert Hunter, and an expansive “Eyes Of The World” featuring “Big Sandy Creek” and “What’s Going On” within. Michna sat-in on “Ramble On Rose” and the “Eyes” suite.
