John McEuen Joins Bob Weir & Wolf Bros In Florida

welcomed multi-instrumentalist John McEuen during their concert last night at Jannus Live in St. Petersburg, Florida. McEuen joined the trio led by Bob Weir at the end of the first set and again in the second set.

Weir, drummer Jay Lane and bassist Don Was kicked off Sunday’s action with a “Samson & Delilah” opener. Other Grateful Dead staples followed, “Loose Lucy,” “Tennessee Jed,” “Black-Throated Wind” and Bob Dylan’s “Queen Jane Approximately.” McEuen, who was a co-founding member of Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, then emerged to add banjo to “Friend Of The Devil.” The guest switched to fiddle to lead the Wolf Bros’ debut performance of “Orange Blossom Special.”

Set two began with the trio’s common pairing of “Ashes And Glass” around “Don’t Let Go.” McEuen then came out to play banjo and then mandolin on a rendition of “Dark Star” and moved back to fiddle following a transition to “Corinna.” The set continued with “Standing On The Moon” and McEuen coming back for the set-closing “Going Down the Road Feelin’ Bad.” Weir, Lane and Was returned to the stage to deliver a “Ripple” encore.
