Bob Weir & Wolf Bros Inaugural Tour: The Sit-Ins

By Andy Kahn Nov 25, 2018 6:03 am PST

Grateful Dead/Dead & Company guitarist Bob Weir recently wrapped the inaugural tour with bassist Don Was and drummer Jay Lane. The trio frequently expanded throughout the tour that saw several guests sitting-in at various stops along the way. For this week’s Sunday Cinema below is a collection of videos capturing many of the musicians that joined Bobby’s latest project over the past few weeks.

Bob Weir & Wolf Bros made their (surprise) debut in October at a benefit concert in San Francisco. The unexpected performance featured Dead & Company’s John Mayer and Mickey Hart accompanying the trio for portions of the initial set. The group officially embarked on their first tour a few days later in Reno, Nevada. Jane’s Addiction frontman Perry Farrell became the first guest of the tour, joining the band in Los Angeles. Bassist Tal Wilkenfeld was brought out in Santa Barbara – and again when the tour came to New York City. The Seattle show featured a sit-in by local bagpiper Jori Chisholm.

A trio of guests joined the trio in Nashville as the historic Ryman Auditorium stage was visited by Margo Price, John Oates and Buddy Miller. Harpist Mikaela Davis was the unannounced player in Syracuse, New York. Weir’s RatDog band mate Kenny Brooks added saxophone at the first of two shows at The Capitol Theatre in Port Chester.

Guitarist Warren Haynes was then the guest the following night at The Cap. Guitarist John Kadlecik came out in his native Washington D.C., while local guitarist Tom Hamilton was tapped to play in Philadelphia. The tour concluded at The Beacon Theatre in NYC with longtime Weir collaborator Steve Kimock sitting-in, along with trumpeter Reggie Pittman, and Brooks and Wilkenfeld making additional appearances as well.
