Steve Kimock Among Bob Weir & Wolf Bros Guests At Beacon Theatre Tour Finale

The debut Bob Weir and Wolf Bros tour came to a close on Monday night at the Beacon Theatre in New York City. Weir, bassist Don Was and drummer Jay Lane had been joined by a number of guests over the course of the run, so it was only fitting the final show of the tour featured more guest appearances.

The trio kicked off the show with a rousing “The Music Never Stopped” featuring “Easy Answers” within. Guitarist Steve Kimock emerged towards the end of “Easy Answers” and stuck around for the final portion of “The Music Never Stopped.” Weir, Was and Lane then went at it alone for a cover of Bobby Darin’s “Artificial Flowers.” Next, Kimock returned to the stage to augment the three-piece on “Only A River” from Bobby’s 2016 album Blue Mountain.

Bob Weir & Wolf Bros’ opening stanza rolled on with the help of a horn section featuring saxophonist Kenny Brooks and trumpeter Reggie Pittman on “Black-Throated Wind.” Then, Kimock joined the trio and the horns for “Odessa.” From there, bassist Tal Wilkenfeld made her second appearance of the tour to jam with the three-piece on “Scarlet Begonias.” Wikenfeld and Steve Kimock also added to the set-closing “Cassidy.”

The horn section of Brooks and Pittman were on hand for the entire second set on Monday night. Weir told the crowd they “would open with a ballad which hardly anyone ever does” before adding “for good reason.” The ballad was “Even So” from the RatDog repertoire. Another RatDog staple, “October Queen” came next. Bobby then led the now five-piece through “Bird Song” ahead of the recently revived “Eternity.” The stage filled up as Kimock emerged once again for a run of “The Other One” > “Days Between” > “Turn On Your Lovelight” to end the final set of the tour. Bob Weir & Wolf Bros concluded their inaugural tour with help from Wikenfeld for an encore of “Ripple” and “Brokedown Palace.” Watch fan-shot video of last night’s show captured by rdeal1999:
