A memorial held in honor of psychedelic pioneer Richard “Ram Dass” Alpert, who died on December 22, was held in San Francisco on Saturday. Put together by the Seva Foundation, the event came to a close with Bob Weir teaming up with Joan Baez for a duet on “Amazing Grace.”

Counter-culture figure Wavy Gravy, co-author Mirabai Bush, friends Jack Kornfield and Trudy Goodman are among those who spoke at the memorial. Baez then took the stage to talk about Dass and perform “God Is God” by Steve Earle and Violeta Parra’s “Gracias a la Vida.” Finally, Weir emerged to tell the tale of the first time he met Ram Dass when he just 18 and dueted on “Amazing Grace” with Joan to close out the ceremony.
