Bob Weir Guests With Umphrey’s McGee On This Date In 2011

By Scott Bernstein Sep 6, 2016 7:17 am PDT

Five years ago tonight Umphrey’s McGee began a four-night stand at Brooklyn Bowl in New York City with a surprise guest. The band was joined by Grateful Dead guitarist Bob Weir to kick off their second set on opening night at the Williamsburg venue.

Weir emerged at the start of the second set to lead the group through their first-ever cover of Buddy Holly’s “Not Fade Away.” Bobby stuck around to contribute his signature rhythm work to the UM instrumental “Glory.” Other highlights of the night included the debut of “Domino Theory” and wild versions of “The Triple Wide” and “Phil’s Farm.”
