Blues Traveler Welcomes Oteil Burbridge, Eric Krasno & More At Red Rocks

Last night pioneering jam act Blues Traveler continued a long tradition of Independence Day shows at the famed Red Rocks in Morrison, Colorado. Traveler first played Red Rocks on July 4th back in 1992 and have performed at the venue on that same date nearly every year since.

Blues Traveler delivered a career-spanning set that included a handful of covers and special guests. The action started with a “Cara Let The Moon” > “Slow Change” > “Sadly A Fiction” sequence before the band welcomed Uncle Kracker and Oteil Burbridge for a cover of Sublime’s “What I Got.” Burbridge had just completed a run of shows with Dead & Company in nearby Boulder and has a long history with BT dating back to his Aquarium Rescue Unit dates as both ARU and Traveler were part of the first few H.O.R.D.E. tours. Oteil stuck around for a bass jam ahead of “Defense & Desire” before John Popper delivered his inventive take on “The Star Spangled Banner.”

The next guests to share the stage with Traveler were openers Thompson Square who lent a hand on “Matador” and “I Can Still Feel You.” Blues Traveler’s breakthrough smash “Run-Around” was up next followed by a cover of Radiohead’s “Creep.” The band worked a “Bass & Drums” jam within “But Anyway” and later finished the set with the ending of “Cara Let The Moon” as the main set was one huge “Cara Let The Moon” sandwich. John Popper & Co. had one more treat in store for the encore as guitarist Eric Krasno and British musician Sam Palladio joined in on a well-jammed “Brother John” to send the fans home happy.
