The Black Crowes held a pair of concerts at Pearl Concert Theater at Palms Casino Resort in Las Vegas this weekend. Friday’s encore was a cover of Elvis Presley’s “Jailhouse Rock,” which the band last played way back in 1997.
The choice to cover “Jailhouse Rock” in Las Vegas was fitting given Elvis’ strong association with Sin City. Written by Jerry Leiber and Mike Stoller, “Jailhouse” rock was released by Elvis in 1957 and was also the title of a film he starred in, which came out the same year.

The Black Crowes covered “Jailhouse Rock” a few times in 1996 and 1997. Their arrangement is similar to the version that appeared on the Jeff Beck Group’s 1969 album, Beck-Ola, with Rod Stewart on lead vocals.
