Béla Fleck‘s My Bluegrass Heart ensemble recently concluded a co-headlining tour with Punch Brothers. Both bands joined forces for a holiday medley to end most shows on the run and Fleck unveiled official video of the suite featuring “The Chipmunk Song” and “Sleigh Ride” from the trek’s December 15, 2023 stop at Clowes Memorial Hall in Indianapolis.
Famed banjoist Béla Fleck recruited fiddler Michael Cleveland, mandolinist Sierra Hull, multi-instrumentalist Justin Moses, bassist Mark Schatz and guitarist Bryan Sutton as the lineup for his final My Bluegrass Heart performances of 2022. The six musicians packed the stage with Punch Brothers for the festive “Chipmunk Song”/”Sleigh Ride” medley.
Punch Brothers’ Chris Thile and Chris Eldridge teamed with Sierra Hull to sing “The Chipmunk Song.” Banjoist Noam Pikelny of Punch Brothers then read hilarious letters to Santa Claus written by members of each band. Finally, Fleck led the assembled musicians through a rousing, bluegrass-tinged “Sleigh Ride” that featured solos from nearly everyone on stage.
