‘Austin City Limits’ Announces Season 46 Lineup Featuring John Prine, Yola & More
Yola, Rufus Wainwright and more are among the new performers for the 46th Season of Austin City Limits. The famed music program is also airing standout archival performances as well special tributes to John Prine, Stevie Ray Vaughan and more.
The season will kick off on October 3 (check local PBS station for listings) with one of those tributes, a look back at the late great John Prine’s eight performances on ACL between his in 1978 and his final appearance 40 years later in 2018 with a special introduction recorded by Jason Isbell. UK Singer-songwriter Yola’s debut ACL performance will air on October 10 followed by a retrospective on Austin’s pride and joy, Stevie Ray Vaughan: 30 Years On, marking 30 years since the legendary guitarist tragically died in a helicopter crash.
Singer-songwriter Rufus Wainwright’s debut ACL set hits the airwaves on October 24 followed by a 50th-anniversary celebration of Texas Western Swing legends Asleep At The Wheel on Halloween. Two great encore performances follow:John Legend & The Roots 2011 appearance and Bonnie Raitt’s 2012 ACL set. Performances from Austin’s own Jackie Venson and Miami-based band The Mavericks are also on the bill for Season 46 with more new episode announcements on the way.
“As we launch a brand new season in very uncertain times, ACL continues to break new ground,” longtime ACL executive producer Terry Lickona said in a statement. “To begin, we celebrate the great John Prine, who was one of the early victims of the COVID pandemic. We’ll also look back at Austin’s pride and joy, Stevie Ray Vaughan, 3 decades since his passing. But, as always, we’ll welcome some first-timers and spotlight the best of what’s happening in Austin today.”

Austin City Limits has also updated their iconic intro to reflect the changing times due to the pandemic featuring Austin-based band Black Pumas‘ stellar song “Colors” along with appearances by Austin-based artists like Ray Wylie Hubbard, White Denim, Jackie Venson, Lyle Lovett and more.
