Audio | Tom Marshall & Trey Anastasio – Cook Cabin

It’s been quite some time since Phish lyricist Tom Marshall has shared a previously-unreleased demo he recorded with the band’s front man, Trey Anastasio, on SoundCloud, so we were excited to see he’s unveiled “Cook Cabin,” from a 2006 session.

“Nine years after we borrowed a farmhouse in Vermont and wrote ‘Farmhouse,’ we borrowed our friend’s, the Cooks, cabin…and immediately wrote ‘Cook Cabin’ under similar circumstances: we used lyrics from the first written thing we found in the house,” Marshall explained in the details accompanying the track on SoundCloud. “In the Farmhouse case, it was a note from the caretaker. In the Cook’s case, it was embroidered artwork welcoming all to the premises. Thank you Jack and Liz for those wonderful premises! more songs from this session will follow. None made it into the Phish canon apart from ‘Let Me Lie’…but since we’ve all heard too many versions of that already, I’ll spare you this (cooler) version,” Marshall added.

Take a listen to “Cook Cabin”:

We look forward to hearing more tracks from the February 2006 sessions, which took place during a period when Phish was broken up and before Anastasio’s late ’06 arrest.
