Next month will see the release of a new four-disc installment in the Miles Davis bootleg series produced by Columbia Records and Legacy Recordings, entitled Miles Davis At Newport 1955-1975: The Bootleg Series Vol. 4, featuring the late jazz master performing at the Newport Jazz Festival with various lineups, beginning with his first appearance in 1955 and continuing through two more decades. In 1966 Davis appeared with bassist Ron Carter, pianist Herbie Hancock, tenor saxophonist Wayne Shorter and drummer Tony Williams, offering a set that included their rendition of “Stella By Starlight.”




The recording of the nearly eight minute version of the Victor Young penned composition has been made available in advance of the release of the new collection. Miles Davis At Newport 1955-1975: The Bootleg Series Vol. 4 will be issued on July 17, listen to “Stella By Starlight” from 1966 below:
