Aoife O’Donovan recruited fellow singer-songwriter Allison Russell to contribute to the new single “Prodigal Daughter.” The collaboration appears on O’Donovan’s forthcoming studio album, Age Of Apathy.
The 11-track Age Of Apathy is due out through Yep Roc Records on January 21, 2022. O’Donovan spent time during the start of the pandemic creating her first full-length solo LP since 2016’s The Magic Hour at Winter Park, Florida’s Full Sail University. Joe Henry produced the album remotely with Darren Schneider handling engineering and mixing duties on-site.
Bassist David Piltch and drummer Jay Bellerose recorded their parts remotely as did Russell and fellow Age Of Apathy guest star Madison Cunningham. Aoife O’Donovan wrote “Prodigal Daughter” with Tim O’Brien who also contributed mandolin to the track. O’Donovan welcomed Russell for a performance of the song at this year’s Newport Folk Festival.
