Animal Collective Releases App Featuring New Single

Animal Collective will issue Painting With, their 10th studio album, through Domino on February 19. Today the band released the free Painting With iOS app which features the LP’s single “Lying In The Grass.”
Avey Tare, Panda Bear and Geologist recorded Painting With at EastWest Studios in Los Angeles. The record features guest appearances by John Cale and Colin Stetson. Here’s how the album app (which is currently the only platform available to hear the new track) is described, followed by a video previewing it in action:
The ‘Painting With’ app allows for real-time collaborative painting between two users while listening to ‘Lying in the Grass.’ Record, submit, and share your creations from the app to Twitter and Instagram by using the hashtag #PaintingWith. The submissions are displayed in real-time on the Animal Collective website: http://www.myanimalhome.net
The app also includes a strobe light feature that animates the zoetropic turntable slipmat that is included in the deluxe edition LP. The song will see its official release, via all the usual digital channels, this coming Monday February 1st.
