Amy Helm and Grahame Lesh announced a new project dubbed Songs Of Our Own that will celebrate the music of their fathers: Levon Helm of The Band and Phil Lesh of the Grateful Dead, respectively. Songs Of Our Own will debut with a three-night stand at the Egyptian Theater in Park City, Utah on April 6 – 8.

The pair have a long history of sharing the stage together that dates back to Grahame’s first appearance at Woodstock, New York’s Levon Helm Studios in 2010. Amy Helm and Grahame Lesh have gone on to collaborate in a variety of settings over the past 12 years. Grahame Lesh has performed with Amy’s band, while Amy Helm played with Grahame at numerous Phil Lesh & Friends shows and sat-in with Midnight North. Additionally, the two musicians took part in the Capitol Sun Rays collaboration with Luther Dickinson, JT Nero and Allison Russell.

“It has been magical playing songs by both The Band and Grateful Dead with Amy,” noted Grahame in a statement. “Bringing our music together with the songs that we each began our musical lives immersed in is such an exciting endeavor for all of us, and we can’t wait to get started.”

“The connection Grahame and I share onstage always feels like a direct channel to the commitment, honesty, and joy both my father and Phil exude in their musical expression,” added Amy Helm. “We’re thrilled to be creating this touchstone of our musical histories together.”

Amy Helm and Grahame Lesh will be joined by what the latter described as a “pretty ludicrous band” to perform material from the Grateful Dead and The Band songbooks. Grahame’s Instagram post heralding the project and inaugural run also mentioned “expect more announcements soon.”
