Aloe Blacc Details ‘Rock My Soul Volume 2’ Covers Collection & Reimagines White Stripes Hit

Hear the singer tackle The Stripes’ anthemic “Seven Nation Army.”

Aloe Blacc is set to return with the second and final installment in his Rock My Soul cover EP series. Rock My Soul Volume 2 arrives in full on June 28 and is previewed today with the singer’s rendition of The White Stripes anthem, “Seven Nation Army.”

Aloe Blacc announced the Rock My Soul project in May and previewed Volume 1 with a soulful take on the Soundgarden classic, “Black Hole Sun” The first installment also featured covers of No Doubt (“Don’t Speak”), Nirvana (“Lithium”), Red Hot Chili Peppers (“Under the Bridge”) and Green Day (“When I Come Around”).

Rock My Soul Volume 2 also continues Blacc’s #TakeMeBackTuesday campaign where he’ll release more tracks from Volume 2 each Tuesday leading up to the EP release. Rock My Soul Volume 2 features covers from Oasis (“Wonderwall”), Blur (“Song 2”), R.E.M. (“Everybody Hurts”) and Rage Against The Machine (“Born of a Broken Man”).

“I’ve always been drawn to the emotional depth and powerful messages in these songs,” Blacc stated upon announcing the project. “With ‘Rock My Soul,’ I wanted to honor the originals while also bringing my own perspective to the music. I can’t wait for everyone to hear it.”

Aloe Blacc previewed the upcoming Volume 2 with The White Stripes’ “Seven Nation Army,” the anthemic opener off Jack and Meg White’s 2003 LP, Elephant. Blacc’s version of the rocker is reminiscent of the Godfather of Soul, James Brown.

While Aloe Blacc has no tour dates on the books, the singer is set to perform his cover of No Doubt’s “Don’t Speak” on The Today Show on Thursday (June 13).
